“SALES TAX BAR ASSOCIATION” was formed in the year 1953.The objective of the association is to update the members in particular and the public in general on Value Added Tax and Allied Laws in the State of Maharashtra. The association is registered under the Bombay Public Trust Act, 1950. Over the last 6 decades, the Association has not just kept pace with the times; it has always endeavored to update the knowledge of its members by arranging study circle meetings and legal seminars. The Bar maintains an excellent library where sizeable number of magazines and books on taxation are available for reference to the members. Besides hosting the first National Conference of All India Federation of Tax Practitioners in the year 1978, the Association periodically arranges seminars for the practitioners all over Vidarbha and part of Marathwada. The Association also takes care of its individual members. Group Insurance and Benevolent fund are the eloquent examples to show that the members are indeed taken care of.

The atmosphere of the Bar has always been very liberal and generous. It has been a tradition of the Bar that the seniors in the Profession always extended a helping hand to the juniors. One feels like a member of a big family and that is demonstrated by various activities of the Bar. Birthdays of the members are regularly celebrated, sports events, family get together, excursion trips are arranged quite often where all members take part whole-heartedly.

As an institution committed to creation and dissemination of knowledge, It has promoted a regional organization named the Vidarbha Tax Practitioners’ Association which is devoting its energies to promote brotherhood amongst the Tax Practitioners of the entire Vidarbha region and to associate with the district Bar Associations in organizing collaborative academic programmes.
